The Faculty’s committee on the use of government subsidies for higher education institutions

The members of the committee on the use of government subsidies for higher education institutions (Kommission zur Verwendung von Studienzuschüssen) are appointed by the Faculty Board. We use the government subsidies we receive to improve the quality of our teaching, our student services, and our infrastructure. Students and teaching staff are equally represented on the committee. Based on requests submitted by members of the Faculty or by students, the committee decides on the use of the subsidies we receive. The committee is chaired by the Dean of Studies. The representatives of the Faculty’s student community as well as of its teaching staff are appointed by the Faculty Board for one-year terms. The faculty student representation (Fachschaft) proposes candidates for appointment to the committee as representatives of the Faculty’s student community. Usually, requests for the allocation of a share of the subsidies we receive are submitted to the chair of the committee at the end of the budget year. The committee meets several times throughout the budget year, which starts at the end of the winter semester, to decide on requests. Urgent requests may be submitted to the Office of the Dean of Studies at any time.

Degree subject committee

The degree programme planning committee (Studienplankommission, StuPK) we installed in 2004 had the same responsibilities as degree subject committees (Studienfachkommission, StuFK). Therefore, the StuPK was recently renamed degree subject committee (StuFK). Matters regarding teaching quality used to fall within the responsibility of the StuPK of the Faculty of Biology and now fall within the responsibility of the Faculty’s StuFK. The StuFK meets at regular intervals, and at least twice per semester.
Matters regarding teaching degree programmes fall within the responsibility of a subcommittee comprised of the members of the StuFK and lecturers involved in teacher training.
